Garbage Disposal Installation in Loma Linda, CA

Your disposal hums but nothing moves. Or it leaks onto the cabinet floor. Or it finally quit for good and the sink is backing up on both sides. Whatever brought you here, a garbage disposal is a small unit doing a hard job, and when it goes, the whole kitchen stops working. Lincoln Plumbing & Rooter installs and replaces garbage disposals for Loma Linda homeowners and property managers, out of our San Bernardino shop. We're licensed under CSLB 1111400, we answer the phone 24/7, and the in-person estimate is free.

What garbage disposal installation involves

Most jobs are a swap: the old unit comes out, a new one goes in. That sounds simple, and often it is, but the details are where installs go wrong. We shut off power at the breaker, disconnect the dishwasher drain line and the discharge tube, and support the old unit while we release it from the mounting ring so it doesn't drop and crack the trap arm below.

Then we look at the sink flange. A lot of leaks people blame on the disposal are actually a tired old flange with dried-out plumber's putty underneath. We reset the flange with fresh putty, seat the mounting assembly square to the sink bottom, and torque it evenly so the gasket compresses the way it's supposed to.

New unit goes on the mount, discharge tube gets cut to length and aligned with the P-trap — no forcing pipe into a strain that will weep in six months. If a dishwasher is tied in, we knock out the plug (a step skipped more often than you'd think, and the reason a lot of new dishwashers won't drain) and clamp the hose with a high loop. Power gets reconnected or the cord wired in, then we run water and test under load, checking every joint dry with a paper towel before we pack up.

Why Lincoln Plumbing & Rooter for garbage disposal installation

  • Licensed under CSLB 1111400 — a real California contractor's license you can look up before we ever knock on the door.
  • Free in-person estimates. We come look at your actual sink cabinet, not guess over the phone. Cast iron sink, deep basin, tight cabinet, no dedicated outlet — those things change the job, and we'd rather see them first.
  • We fix the drain, not just the disposal. We do drain cleaning and main line work every day, so if the real problem is a clogged branch line downstream, we'll tell you that instead of selling you a disposal that won't help.
  • Someone answers 24/7. A leaking disposal at 10pm is a cabinet full of water by morning. Call and you get a person.
  • Family-run since 2021. Two brothers started this with one truck. The same crew works residential kitchens in Loma Linda and commercial properties across the Inland Empire — property managers get the same faces every visit.
  • Plain pricing. You get the number before we start, and it doesn't grow while we're under your sink.

Our garbage disposal installation process

  1. You call, we pick up. Tell us what the unit is doing — humming, jammed, leaking, dead silent. We'll often know from that whether you need a repair or a replacement.
  2. Free in-person estimate. We come to your Loma Linda home, open the cabinet, check the flange, the trap, the electrical, and the dishwasher connection. Then we quote it.
  3. Pick the unit. Horsepower matters — a 1/3 HP unit in a busy family kitchen is why the last one died. We'll walk you through motor size, grind stages, and noise insulation, and install a unit you supply or one we bring.
  4. Removal and prep. Power off at the breaker, old unit out, cabinet protected, sink flange cleaned down to bare metal and reset with fresh putty.
  5. Install and connect. Mount assembly seated and tightened evenly, discharge tube cut and aligned to the P-trap, dishwasher knockout removed and hose clamped with a high loop, power connected.
  6. Test under load. Full basin of water, disposal running, every joint checked dry by hand. We run the dishwasher drain cycle too if it's tied in.
  7. Clean up and hand off. Old unit hauled away, cabinet dried, and a two-minute rundown on what should and shouldn't go down there.

What garbage disposal installation typically costs

Estimates range based on a handful of things, and we'd rather explain them than throw a number at you. A straight like-for-like swap on a unit with a good existing flange and a working outlet under the sink is the low end. Cost moves up when the mounting assembly is corroded and has to be replaced, when the sink flange needs to be reset on a heavy cast iron or fireclay basin, when the drain plumbing under the sink is old galvanized or ABS that cracks the moment it's touched, or when there's no switch or outlet in the cabinet and the unit has to be hardwired.

Horsepower and brand of the disposal itself is the other variable — you can spend a little or a lot there, and we'll give you an honest read on what your kitchen actually needs. The quote covers labor, connections, putty and hardware, hauling the old unit, and testing. It doesn't cover unrelated repairs we find, like a failing leaking pipe behind the cabinet — but you'll hear about it before we do anything. The in-person estimate is free. Call and we'll come look.

FAQ

My disposal just hums — does it need to be replaced?

Not always. A hum usually means the motor has power but the grind plate is jammed. Sometimes it clears with the hex wrench in the bottom port and a reset button. If it hums after that, or trips the reset repeatedly, the motor is going and replacement is the better spend.

Can I install a garbage disposal myself?

Some people do. The two things that catch first-timers are the sink flange seal and the electrical. A flange that isn't seated evenly leaks slowly into the cabinet for months before you notice the swollen particle board, and hardwiring a unit without a proper connection is a fire and shock risk. If there's no outlet under your sink, call someone.

How long does the install take?

A clean replacement is usually under an hour. Add time if the mounting assembly is corroded, the drain plumbing needs rebuilding, or the unit has to be hardwired.

Do you install disposals I bought myself?

Yes. Bring us the box. We'll check that the horsepower and mount type suit your sink before we open it, and tell you straight if it's undersized for your kitchen.

My sink backs up when the disposal runs — is that the disposal?

Often it's not. If water backs up into the other basin or drains slowly with the disposal off, the clog is downstream in the branch line or further out toward the main line. A new disposal won't fix that. We'll diagnose the drain first.

Are you available after hours in Loma Linda?

We run 24 hour emergency service. A disposal leaking into a cabinet counts — call whenever it happens.
